Calstock Flood Defence Improvements – footpath update

The Calstock Flood Defence Improvement scheme has reduced the risk of flooding to the local community, contributed to river quality improvements in the Tamar Estuary and provided 11 hectares of new inter-tidal habitat which will continue to develop into the future.

We updated you in January, to let you know that we were hoping to reopen the footpath by the end of February. It is with regret that we must push the opening back, as the safety of the site cannot yet be guaranteed. As the site owner, the Environment Agency have a duty to ensure it is safe for public use before permitting access.

We understand that this will be disappointing news to the local community, but your safety remains our priority. We’re working with our partners to reopen the footpath as soon as possible, whilst ensuring it is safe to do so.

We appreciate the support from the community in the delivery of this project and thank you for your understanding as we work to provide a site that is safe, accessible and enjoyable for all.
