A welcome visit from rain to get our gardens and countryside looking green and flourishing…although I think it’s fair to say we all like the rain to stay away when we’re actually walking…!

Peter and Caroline Hammond have revised their walk and full details are below.  The start time and meeting place remain the same.

You’ll be glad to see that they are offering one of their infamous cream teas after the walk. It is essential that you book this beforehand, preferably a couple of days before the walk so they can make the right number of scones!  To book this cream tea, please ring or email Peter & Caroline on 01579 370474 or on updowncott@btinternet.com

Sunday 30th June 2019   New and Old trails near the Devon Border with Peter and Caroline

Parking opposite The Royal Pub at Horsebridge PL19 8PJ SX401749 or in the side road adjacent, ready to start walking at 11.00 am.

5.6 mile circular walk, through Townlake, Sydenham Damerel, Woodley and Combe.

We will be on quite a busy lane to start and it is uphill but there is a lot of Footpath and quiet lane walking as well.. The terrain is varied and includes tarmac, gravel and rough uneven wood walking and some downhill bits that have loose stones and roots. There are 9 Stiles and some steps up to footpaths from the lane level. There are five steepish uphill bits which will get your heart and leg muscles working quite hard at times but this is Devon and it is not a flat county. Overall we are confident that you will agree that it is worth the effort.

On our “recce” we encountered a lot of free running cattle and docile sheep but they were just curious rather than intimidating.

Please bring a packed lunch, drinks and snacks. Walking shoes or boots recommended.  Sorry no dogs, except registered assistance ones kept on a lead. £3 will be asked for casual walkers.  There are no Public Loos on the route but plenty of convenient places.

There will be a Cornish Cream Tea available after the walk at Lower Downgate PL17 8LA but this must be booked in advanced with Peter and Caroline on 01579 370474 or on updowncott@btinternet.com. Donations to Callington Food Bank for the Cream Tea.Please mention if you have any dietary needs.

Saturday 20 July Cotehele and Beyond

Leader: Jean Miller

Approx. 5-6 miles covering Danescombe, Norris Green, Metherell and Cotehele Quay. We are reviewing CFS Walk Guide 8. OS Explorer Map 108.

Meet at 10am at Calstock Railway Station car park (PL18 9QY SX 435 688). The train from Plymouth arrives at 9.10am. There are return trains at 13.56 and 15.56.
