After 15 months of planning, fund raising, share issues, installation, volunteer staff training, and stocking the Harrowbarrow and Metherell Community Shop is open trading as “Tamar Valley Pantry”. A “soft opening” on Wednesday 22 October allowed the volunteer shopkeepers time to settle in before the official opening on Saturday 1 November. The event brought together local councillors, supporters, the press, and of course our residents to witness the cutting of the ribbon by our local celebrities, Mandy and Adrian Parkes who ran the village shop and post office for 25 years before closing on their retirement. This is the realisation of Phase 1 of the project which involved raising £50,000. Phase 2 will be insulation the building and the decorative wooden cladding of the shop and storage unit, and Phase 3 is the adding a sloping roof which will also provide a covered terrace area & installation of solar power.
