We are keen for the Parish Council to support our community as best it can. Because of the nature of the geographical spread of the parish it would seem appropriate to keep this to a localised i.e. ward/village level.
If you are having to isolate and need support please leave us a message with your name, address and contact number and permission to share your details with an appropriately placed volunteer. We will be asking some of our ward members to check in on people (using phone and or email where necessary).
Equally if you can help please let us know so that we can pass on your details. We may need people to pick up and deliver goods (prescriptions/basic groceries) or it may be that you are a great organiser and would take on the co-ordination of support required in your immediate area. At this stage we won’t know exactly what will be needed and the levels of support required.
We would like urge you to follow the guidelines set out by the Government:
“We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.
This group includes those who are:
- aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
- under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):
- chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
- chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
- chronic kidney disease
- chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
- chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
- diabetes
- problems with your spleen – for example, sickle celldisease or if you have had your spleen removed
- a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tabletsor chemotherapy
- being seriously overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above)
- those who are pregnant
Note: there are some clinical conditions which put people at even higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. If you are in this category, next week the NHS in England will directly contact you with advice about the more stringent measures you should take in order to keep yourself and others safe. For now, you should rigorously follow the social distancing advice in full, outlined below.
People falling into this group are those who may be at particular risk due to complex health problems such as:
- people who have received an organ transplant and remain on ongoing immunosuppression medication
- people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radiotherapy
- people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia who are at any stage of treatment
- people with severe chest conditions such as cystic fibrosis or severe asthma (requiring hospital admissions or courses of steroid tablets)
- people with severe diseases of body systems, such as severe kidney disease (dialysis)” (taken from Public Health England, Guide to Social Distancing, gov.uk, updated on 23-03-2020).

Need help collecting medication from GUNNISLAKE Pharmacy about twice per month.
I am 74 and my husband 85. Pharmacy can’t deliver. Neighbours are doing most of our
Shopping.
We live in St. Anns Chapel
I will email you back privately, this will be fine I am sure.
Thank you Sue and Clare for this very clear list of who is in the high risk categories.
Thank you Juliet. It changes so quickly though.
Hello. My granny in her 90’s lives in Calstock and will soon need some shopping. Please can anyone tell me if any local shops are delivering at the moment? All the major supermarkets can’t deliver until mid-April!
I will email you with more details but Gunnislake Stores are delivering three times a week to people outside of Gunnislake. There are also people offering help with picking up basic groceries. I am going to find out more about an initiative in Calstock and email you directly.
I believe the White Heart shop is functioning, contact for details, usual ways 01822 833876 etc.
Many thanks for letting us know. I will make contact with them and check. Than you.
My mother who’s 85 and lives alone at Drakewalls will be getting her last Tesco delivery today as I have been unable to get any more slots. What is the procedure for ordering from Gunnislake Stores?
Dear Amanda
Gunnislake shop is not delivering but you can order over the phone and we can arrange
for a volunteer to collect it. Their phone number is 01822 832535. Let me know when you
have ordered it and I’ll arrange for delivery.
