With a distinctly autumnal edge to the early mornings and evenings, migrating birds beginning to be on the move such as the chiffchaff in our garden today, fruit trees laden and late summer flowers, here is our next walk:

Sunday 29 September Mount Edgcumbe – Kingsand with Gail and Geoff Lee

Meet at Cremyll Car Park, Mount Edgcumbe at 10.30am.From the A374 to Torpoint take the B3247 to Millbrook and Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. After Millbrook follow the signs to Mount Edgcumbe Formal Gardens before turning left into car park at Cremyll (approx. 2.75 miles from Millbrook). This is a pay car park: £4 for for four hours and over – so car-sharing is recommended! Walkers may also reach the meeting point by the Cremyll (passenger) Ferry from PlymouthThere is a free car park near the ferry landing stage on the Plymouth side near the Royal William Yard. The ferry leaves Plymouth on Sundays at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour. It returns on the hour and at 30 minutes past the hour. We would wait for people arriving by ferry to walk up to the meeting point at about 10.30.

This is a 6 mile circular walk which starts with Mount Edgcumbe Country Park then follows the coast path along the Minadew Brakes, past Picklecombe Point to the old smuggling village of Kingsand. Turning inland the walk gathers height on the climb to Maker Church which enjoys great views of Plymouth Sound and the warships.

The walk is described as “moderate” and takes about 4 hours excluding stops. The walk is along quiet lanes, woodland and field paths with a small number of gates and stiles. The terrain is good throughout.le se bring a packed lunch, drinks and snacks. Walking shoes or boots recommended. Sorry no dogs, except registered assistance ones kept on a lead. £3 will be asked for non-members.

There are toilets in Mount Edgcumbe and at Kingsand and refreshments at Mount Edgcumbe after the walk. It is envisaged that we stop for lunch at Kingsand which is approximately half way round the walk.
