It has been brought to our attention that some Himalayan Balsam has been cut along the riverbank at Gunnislake.  It has now entered the river and got caught in the fishing traps.  The Lower Tamar Fishing Club have had to report the incident to the Environment Agency as it is on their land and they did not authorise or carry out the work.  The Parish Council also did not do this.

Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed are invasive species and therefore have stringent guidelines on how they should be dealt with to avoid further contamination and effective treatment.  Authorised contractors or trained operatives undertake this work for Local Authorities and Parish Councils.

Please be aware if individuals carry this out themselves, they may be liable for prosecution and/or a penalty fine from the Environment Agency.
