Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who have enabled our plans for a Forest for Calstock Parish to become a reality.
The support from our communities has been amazing and we would like to thank each of the volunteers for their help. Their contribution -whether it were practically ‘digging in’ or words of encouragement and sharing of information – has enabled over 1300 trees to be planted on Parish Council land in Calstock, Albaston and St Ann’s Chapel. We had volunteers from all over the parish; LiveWest turned up with an army of helpers and we were absolutely delighted that pupils from Calstock Primary School came along and got stuck in.
The project came about thanks to Lesley Strong who told us about a Crowdfunding initiative. At the time, Lesley was working at the Tamar Valley AONB and the Forest for Cornwall. She joined our Advisory Committee and helped oversee our initial plans. This Committee was Chaired by Councillor Alastair Tinto and ably assisted by Gill Court (a resident from Calstock), John Wells, Theo Brown and Gill Boreham from the Parish Council. Stuart Wood (also a Forest for Cornwall Officer) continued to support us and offer advice. Our team leaders – Jane Weatherby, Roger Harris and Neil Pope have been incredible and have worked above and beyond the call of duty. Neil Gallacher became a volunteer Comms Officer. Without them and our volunteers we just couldn’t have done it.
It has been a resounding success and something we can be very proud of.
