People in Callington are being asked to take extra care as figures show there are more Covid-19 cases in the town than anywhere else in Cornwall.
The plea from Cornwall Council comes after a number of outbreaks and case clusters across businesses and hospitality venues in the area.
The council’s Public Health team has been working closely with business owners and partners to contain the outbreaks, support those affected, and stop the virus spreading further in the community.
Enforcement officers have contacted a number of venues in Callington and, where needed, asked them to make improvements.
And the council’s Covid marshals will soon be patrolling the town, giving out advice and information to businesses and members of the public.
Cllr Sally Hawken, Cornwall Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Wellbeing and Public Health, said: “With cases rising quickly across Callington and the whole of Cornwall, people need to remember the basic guidance – wash your hands regularly, use a face covering when physical distancing is not possible and try to keep your distance from those not in your household.
“Following these simple steps could make a significant difference in reducing the transmission of Covid-19 and help protect you and your friends, colleagues and family from the virus.”
Rachel Wigglesworth, Director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “We are urging people in Callington to follow the rules and be mindful of how easily the virus can be spread.
“If you have any of the main Covid-19 symptoms – a new continuous cough, a high temperature, or a loss of taste or smell, you must self-isolate and your household must continue to self-isolate while waiting for a test. You also must continue to isolate until you get your test results.
“Anyone who tests positive must self-isolate, along with all members of their household, whether they have symptoms or not.”
